Riley: What's that room called?
Me: A mud room.
Riley: I don't see any mud.
My first mud room. Ever. I am so excited.Time to paint. (I just realized the DE stands for Dunn Edwards. And I'm not blond.) This is a grey color with blue undertones. It really looks more blue than grey, but is a beautiful color.
Time to decorate.
I made this shelf! I found brackets at Hobby Lobby, bought a maple slab at Home Depot, cut the wood to size, sanded and then stained the wood espresso, attached the brackets, and mounted the custom shelf! The jars were Oui yogurt jars filled with rocks, roses, and greens.
- Take the baseboards off, put on the shiplap, put the baseboards back on.
- Learn how to properly do a mitered corner.
- Do a Carpenter style corner instead of a 45 degree mitered corner.
- Replace the engineered countertop with a wood counter - probably espresso in color.
- Forgive myself for my rookie mistakes.
Tips:
- Cut each piece precisely. Caulking is a carpenter's best friend, but minimize it's use.
- Look at each wall that you will do and do your best to try to anticipate obstacles.
- Don't be impatient to get the job done (totally me!). Take a piece off if it doesn't look right. Redo cuts that don't measure up. It is worth it in the end.
